Agency named to handle T-Online's IPO

Published on .

BONN--Deutsche Telekom here -- Europe's biggest telecommunications company -- has named Duesseldorf-based Spiess Ermisch Andere to handle the advertising to promote the initial public offering of its T-Online access service. T-Online is by far the largest online service in Germany, with 4.2 million members. AOL Europe, the joint venture between America Online and Bertelsmann, has 1.5 million members in Germany.

In 1996, Spiess Ermisch Andere convinced Germans, who tend to put money into savings accounts and real estate, to buy shares in Deutsche Telekom.

Analysts predict this April's 10% sale of T-Online will bring Deutsche Telekom around $1.6 billion.
