Agents Inc. changes name, licenses tools

Published on .

Agents Inc., the MIT spinoff specializing in intelligent agents, changed its name to Firefly Network and said it has begun licensing its tools to companies including Reuters NewMedia, Yahoo! and Ziff-Davis Publishing Co.'s ZD Net.

Agents is the creator of Firefly, a Web site that uses agents to help users find music and movies of interest to them. The new software will give consumers their own personal Firefly agent and offers businesses a way to personalize communications and build online communities.

Yahoo! will use Firefly to customize recommendations via My Yahoo!; Reuters plans to deliver personalized news; and ZD Net will create a personalized shareware library with software recommendations.
