AirClic attracts outgoing American Express top executive as chairman

Published on .

Harvey Golub was elected chairman of the board of AirClic, a unified messaging service that links users of mobile and other Web-enabled devices directly to Web sites. Mr. Golub recently retired as CEO of the American Express Co. but remains that company's chairman until April. Phillip J. Riese was named a director and CEO of the company, from CEO of OptiMark, a technology systems provider. At the same time, AirClic acquired Connect Things, a technology infrastructure spin-off from LM Ericsson AB. Connect Things infrastructure is already actively used in Europe for connecting bar codes to specific pages in a particular Web site. AirClic also closed on a round of funding from Symbol Technologies, Ericsson Business Innovation AB, Motorola, and a private investor group led by Goldman Sachs Group.
