We all know Martha Quinn does pimple cream spots, but who would've guessed fellow original MTV VJ Alan Hunter is a regional commercials director based in his hometown of Birmingham, Ala.? After the ups and downs of pursuing a caree r in L.A. in front of the camera, he opened Hunter Films with his exec producer brother, Hugh, four years ago, and he says he's comfortably ensconced in a "secondary market" niche. "We're not making an effort to go national and compete with the Leslie Dektors of the world," says Hunter, 41, seen here playing both sides of the camera in a recent Books-A-Million spot. He came home with the goal of producing independent films and TV programs, and to that en d Hunter Films made a pilot for a short-film series called The Shorts Show, hosted by Laura Dern, for the Sundance Channel. And yes, he's available to direct music videos.
