The Federal Communications Commission was petitioned by the National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence and 23 other groups, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the National PTA, to order TV stations to run responsible drinking PSAs in some ratio to beer ads. FCC Chairman Reed Hundt earlier this week floated a similar idea. The Beer Instititute and the National Association of Broadcasters immediately criticized the idea. The Beer Institute said beer ads have nothing to do with alcohol abuse.
