Published on .

Allied Domecq, which is trying to buy Seagram Spirits & Wine Group's liquor division, secured rights for Captain Morgan spiced rum. U.K.-based Allied said the deal would go through even if it isn't successful in its bid for the rest of Seagram. Allied announced Oct. 27 it had reached an agreement with Destileria Serralles, which supplies rum to Seagram. The Puerto Rican group had first right of refusal to buy Captain Morgan. Bidders for Seagram are believed to include Allied, United Distillers & Vintners, Brown-Forman Corp.
