AltaVista CEO resigns

Published on .

Rod Schrock resigned Oct. 19. While the company searches for a new CEO, President-Chief Operating Officer Greg Memo and Chief Financial Officer Ken Barber will share responsibilities for the position. Mr. Schrock, a former Compaq Computer Corp. executive, joined AltaVista in 1999 when Compaq acquired Digital Equipment Corp. Digital founded the search engine-turned-Web-portal as a way to show off its technology. Compaq then sold its stake in AltaVista to CMGI, which now owns a majority stake in the Web company.
