Altavista creates team for European expansion

LONDON--Altavista, a leading Internet search engine, has created a number of senior positions to spearhead its expansion into Europe.

Altavista Europe's head of business development will be Martin Keogh, previously managing director of Scoot.com's U.K. operation. Mr. Keogh will be responsible for developing content, technology and distributionrelationships with AltaVista's European partners.

Martin Blakstad, former VP of Sony Music and Columbia Tristar in Europe, will become director of e-commerce in Europe.

Howard Rosen, formerly Compaq Computer Corp.'s U.K. financial director, will become Altavista's financial director for Europe.

The company has also appointed European country heads to develop and market its Altavista sites. These include Mathias Schmitz as managingdirector for Altavista Germany, Switzerland and Austria, from businessdevelopment manager of AltaVista's European search site; and Pierre Paperon, formerly a McKinsey consultant, as head of AltaVista France.
