Amazon bookmarks Paris agency as favorite for French launch

Published on .

PARIS--Online retail giant Amazon.com has tapped Havas Advertising-owned Ailleurs Exactement, Paris, to handle advertising for its upcoming launch in France.

The agency was chosen after a final pitch against Young & Rubicam, Paris. Earlier stages of the pitch also included the Paris shops of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide and True North-owned FCB Worldwide. The value of the new ad budget was not disclosed.

Amazon is slated to roll out its French-language operations by September. The French launch will be the third European site for Amazon.com, which has already launched successful parallel sites in the U.K. and Germany.

Public relations and media activities for the Amazon.fr launch will be handled by Grey Advertising-owned GCI Moreau Lascombe, Paris.

Diego Piacentini, former general manager of Apple Europe, heads up Amazon's European operations. Marketing operations for the new French site will be managed by Cecile Moulard, formerly a top Internet advertising expert with media buying specialist Carat.
