LONDON--Online retail giant Amazon.com has brought in senior U.S. marketer Steve Frazier to spearhead its U.K. operations (Amazon.co.uk)as managing director.

Mr. Frazier succeeds Simon Murdoch, who left the company to start up his own venture, according to a company spokeswoman.

He will report directly to Joseph P. Galli, president and chief operating officer of Amazon.com.

Mr. Frazier's previous experience includes McKinsey & Co., where he was senior engagement manager. He also did a stint as a foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal.

Amazon.co.uk offers more than 1.5 million books and CDs, and hosts online auctions.
