Amazon.com, 'N.Y. Times' reach accord

Published on .

Amazon.com, Seattle, and The New York Times settled a legal dispute over the online retailer's reference to the Times' best sellers list as part of Amazon.com's 50% off list price program. The Times will let Amazon.com continue using the best sellers list; in exchange, the online book seller will supply the Times with its sales data. In addition, Amazon.com will list the Times' best sellers alphabetically, rather than by numerical sales ranking, and it will delay posting the list until the Times makes it available to the public. Amazon.com also is required to include a disclaimer that the Times is neither affiliated with nor endorses Amazon.com.
