Amazon.com in review

Published on .

Web bookseller Amazon.com has split with agency CKS Partners, Portland, Ore., and is reviewing eight shops for its $1 million to $3 million offline account. Agencies competing are Blazing Paradigm, Foote, Cone & Belding, J. Walter Thompson USA, Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising and Young & Rubicam, all San Francisco; Dailey & Associates, Los Angeles; dGWB Advertising, Irvine, Calif.; and Elgin DDB, Seattle. Online advertising will be handled by McMahon & Associates, a new agency formed by a former Anderson & Lembke media executive. ``We decided that we needed an agency that really understood the direct response nature of the medium,'' said Leslie Koch, Amazon's VP-marketing. Starwave Corp., a Web content developer, also recently split with CKS.
