Amazon.com to stock ‘Consumer Reports’ product summaries, extends holiday delivery deadlines

Published on .

Amazon.com will distribute product purchasing advice summaries from Consumer Union, a publisher of products reports. Consumer Union, which publishes the Consumer Reports magazine and Consumer Reports Online, initially will provide Amazon.com customers with free access to purchasing-advice summaries from the company's reports, like product trends. Beginning in early 2001, some summaries will be distributed on a free access basis, but most Consumer Reports' ratings and recommendations will be available on a pay-per-view basis, or $2.95 per report. Separately, Amazon.com said it will team with the United States Postal Service to deliver gifts over the Christmas weekend and on Christmas Day. Orders need to be placed by midnight Dec. 23 with the special holiday delivery method selected.
