Amazon.com takes legal action against the Times

Published on .

Amazon.com filed with the U.S. District Court in Seattle for a declaratory relief against The New York Times' legal threats. Amazon.com asked that the court would allow it to continue to reference The New York Times' best seller lists as part of its 50% discount policy, which grants discounts on hardcovers and paperbacks on the weekly list. Since Amazon.com began its promotion May 17, The New York Times has told Amazon.com that using the newspaper company's name in the promotions was infringing its copyright and trademark.
