Amazon.com was unable to specify the reasons for his departure except to confirm that the decision was "by mutual consent", according to a spokeswoman.
Mr. Ketley, however, is understood to have been unhappy with the way his life had changed since joining the Internet bookseller, according to local trade press reports.
Simon Murdoch, Amazon.com's VP-Europe, who was Mr. Ketley's boss, will take over the operation's marketing responsibilities until a successor is found, according to the Amazon.com spokeswoman. Dr. Murdoch is currently in the U.S. and was unable to comment.
Amazon.com was launched in the U.K. last year.
