Amazon U.K. marketing head quits

Published on .

LONDON--Chris Ketley, the first U.K.-based marketing director of the Internet bookseller Amazon.com, has quit his post only four months after his appointment.

Amazon.com was unable to specify the reasons for his departure except to confirm that the decision was "by mutual consent", according to a spokeswoman.

Mr. Ketley, however, is understood to have been unhappy with the way his life had changed since joining the Internet bookseller, according to local trade press reports.

Simon Murdoch, Amazon.com's VP-Europe, who was Mr. Ketley's boss, will take over the operation's marketing responsibilities until a successor is found, according to the Amazon.com spokeswoman. Dr. Murdoch is currently in the U.S. and was unable to comment.

Amazon.com was launched in the U.K. last year.
