America Online acquires Tegic Communications

America Online has acquired Tegic Communications, a developer of e-mail software for wireless devices. The acquisition is another advancement of AOL's "AOL anywhere'' strategy for mobile telephones and other devices. In related news, AOL's downloadable software prouct, ICQ.com, which enables users to create online "buddy lists'' for real-time chat, announced it secured $100 million in e-commerce and marketing agreements since it began selling advertising opportunities in September.
