America online fights Germany's T-Online

Published on .

BONN -- America Online is fighting for a greatermarket share in Germany's online business with anad campaign through new agency Grey Duesseldorf.

Although AOL is a market leader in several European countries, it is only a distant second in Germany where Deutsche Telekon's T-Online dominates with 3.3 millioncurrent users.

The competition against Deutsche is stiff as the German company has a huge database of telephone users and promotes its online service in its monthly telephone bills

AOL's presence in Germany is through American Online, a joint venture with German media giant Bertelsmann. Another competitor is Manessman-Arcory's Germany.Net.
