More Job Cuts Expected

By Published on .

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- America Online, the troubled interactive unit of AOL Time Warner, laid off 300 workers today, according to an executive familiar with the matter.

The employees were based mostly at AOL's Dulles, Va., headquarters, plus in Mountain View, Calif., and a handful of other facilities around the country.

The positions cut include software engineers and designers, administrative and support personnel, account managers and database employees.

The layoffs account for approximately 1.5% of AOL's 18,000 employees. Earlier this month, AOL's Interactive Marketing unit laid off 90 employees.

More cuts are expected as AOL attempts to contain costs and reorganize its business. AOL Chairman-CEO Jonathan Miller pledged to cut $100 million in costs at the division in a presentation to analysts last week.
