America Online makes move down under

America Online entered into a joint venture with AAPT Ltd., Australia's third-largest telecommunications company and an emerging cellular provider, to create AOL Australia. The joint venture also will launch a new Internet portal to deliver wireless content services. AAPT gets exclusive rights to offer the AOL and CompuServe services on both PC and mobile wireless platforms throughout Australia; AOL receives access to AAPT's network infrastructure.
