Americast adds SNET as partner

Americast, a programming alliance formed by BellSouth, GTE, Ameritech, SBC Communications and Walt Disney Co., announced Southern New England Telecommunications Corp. has joined the alliance. SNET has committed $4.5 billion to deploy a state-of-the-art hybrid fiber coaxial network for transmitting americast programming. SNET's entry marks americast's expansion into the Northeast corridor. Tele-TV, an alliance formed by Nynex, Bell Atlantic and Pacific Telesis, will begin to offer programming in the partners' regions by yearend.
