Ameritech readies January Internet play

Ameritech chairman and CEO Dick Notebaert today said the company in early January will finally announce its plans to provide content on and access to the Internet. Mr. Notebaert also said the company is poised to jump into the long-distance market once legislation gives the nod--which is expected to happen before Dec. 19. DDB Needham Worldwide, Chicago, will handle Ameritech's long-distance advertising.

Additionally, Ameritech today announced that four counties in Illinois (DuPage, Kane, DeKalb and Kendall) have signed on with Ameritech's CivicLink, which offers consumers online access to court records and documents. Public information pertaining to past and present criminal, civil and traffic court cases that are housed in the four counties willl be accessible from any personal computer using Ameritech CivicLink software.
