ANA holds back on welcome mat to agencies

Published on .

The Association of National Advertisers has backed down from its controversial plan to invite ad agencies to join the group. ANA President John Sarsen Jr., attending the American Association of Advertising Agencies' annual meeting in Amelia Island, Fla., told Advertising Age: "We've decided to suspend our offer of inviting agencies as members pending a study that the ANA and Four A's will take on.'' An independent consultant will be hired to conduct the survey, he said. The ANA ruffled the Four A's feathers when it announced the initiative last October at its own annual meeting.
