Angry Thurmond wants probe of Wine Institute

U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R., S.C.), still angry over the wine industry winning government approval to make limited health claims, today asked the inspectors general of the Departments of Agriculture and Health & Human Services to probe whether the Wine Institute conspired with federal officials. The wine claims are based on government dietary guidelines, and Sen. Thurmond questioned whether the guidelines were "manipulated for the purposes of marketing a potentially dangerous product."
