Anti-smoking exec departs

Published on .

Chuck Wolfe is departing as exec VP-chief marketing officer of the American Legacy Foundation, the group formed by state attorneys general to run the national anti-smoking campaign coming out of states' settlement with tobacco companies. Mr. Wolfe had headed Florida's anti-smoking program and was responsible for the state's "truth" theme campaign that also was the basis of the national push. Several of the first ads for the American Legacy Foundation's national campaign via Arnold Communi-cations, Boston, and Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Miami--one filmed surreptitiously in Philip Morris Cos.' offices--were pulled after they were criticized by tobacco marketers and an attorney general as not in keeping with the agreement, but there were no indications the foundation's current ads would change. No reason was given for Mr. Wolfe's exit.
