AOL buys search technology company

Published on .

America Online, which just reported its membership has topped 11 million members, has purchased Personal Library Software, a company that developed the search technologies used on AOL's Member Directory, AOL Find and Channel Search. In exchange for AOL common stock, AOL will obtain PLS and its software products. While AOL will manage PLS, it expects to keep its existing customers, which include AT&T Corp., Dow Jones & Co. and USA Today.
