AOL enters Switzerland, Austria

Published on .

AOL Bertelsmann Online Germany, part of AOL Europe, has expanded its service into Switzerland and Austria. AOL Bertelsmann Online now claims to have 300,000 subscribers after a year of operation -- 200,000 of whom are Germans. Meanwhile, Axel Springer, the German newspaper publisher, has announced its acquisition of 10% of AOL Bertelsmann Online. The intention is to add stories from Bild, Auto Bild, Sport Bild and other national Springer publications to the existing portfolio of publications already offered by AOL Germany. German media giant Bertelsmann and U.S.-based AOL each hold a 45% stake in the German online venture.
