AOL hits 750,000 subscribers outside U.S.

America Online said it has surpassed the 750,000 member mark outside the U.S. in just 18 months after launching its international efforts.

AOL launched in Germany in November 1995. Today AOL Europe, a joint venture between America Online and German media giant Bertelsmann, has just passed 600,000 members. AOL has reached more than 100,000 members since its launch in January 1996. The company's newest international service, AOL Japan, launched on April 15 in partnership with Mitsui and Nikkei.

AOL currently offers localized services in France, the U.K., Germany, Canada and Japan. Consumers in Austria, Switzerland and Sweden are also able to access the service. U.S.-based AOL has 8 million members worldwide.
