AOL gets ImagiNation

Published on .

America Online, Vienna, Va., on Tuesday said it acquired the ImagiNation Network from AT&T Corp. for an undisclosed sum. AOL will operate INN as a wholly-owned subsidiary. The acquisition will bolster multiplayer offerings on AOL's games channel. Interactive Imaginations, New York and Sandbox, Phoenix, Ariz., are among the independent multiplayer, cash-prize games developers for the Web. AT&T purchased Imagination in 1994, a time in which the company was still trying to determine its online strategy. AT&T never invested heavily in the network.
