AOL rolls out Mail Alert service

Published on .

America Online introduced AOL Mail Alerts service, part of its AOL Anywhere program, offering AOL members the option of sending a message to their text-enabled digital cell phone or alphanumeric pager when a designated message has arrived in their AOL e-mail box. Members are able to customize the AOL Mail Alerts service to send a message to a digital wireless phone or alphanumeric pager whenever they receive a new e-mail. Mail filters can be further customized to send alerts according to sender or by subject. The AOL Mail Alerts service can be used in conjunction with most pager and wireless phone service providers that use LCD-display devices and support text messages. The service currently is free to AOL members using AOL 4.0 or above.
