AOL suffers temporary blackout

Published on .

A day after hitting its 10 million subscriber mark, America Online went down between 9-10:30 a.m. EST on Nov. 18. A hardware problem with its e-mail server required taking the entire system down to fix it, explained an AOL spokesman. The e-mail system was fully functional by 2:30 EST, he said, adding that it has identified the source of the problem and is working with the vendor to fix it in the next two weeks.
