AOL takes step toward AOL TV development with partnerships

America Online has partnered with four companies in an effort to develop its AOL TV product: DirectTV, a digital TV entertainment service; Hughes Network Systems, a manufacturer of DirectTV set-top receivers; Philips Electronics, a set-top box developer; and Network Computer, a software company that will develop the software platform for the AOL TV service. AOL TV will provide users with access to a new AOL interactive service through their TVs.
