AOL taps DeBenedictis

Paul DeBenedictis, 45, was named president-CEO of Digital City, the local interactive services company launched by America Online last year. He was president-new media at Hachette Filipacchi Magazines previously and led the company's efforts beginning in 1993 to create a new media division. James Docherty, VP-ad director ofFamily Life, will succeed Mr. DeBenedictis as president of thenew-media unit.

Hachette maintains a stable of 21 titles on AOL as well as several Web properties and reported $5 million in revenues for its online brands in 1995.

Separately, AOL added six new merchants to its online shopping area, including Hickory Farms, The Body Shop, Sports Superstore Online, Cybershop, Aardvark Pet Supplies and Personal Creations. The online service also announced new customer service initiatives to ensure secure transactions and efficient order processing for online shoppers.
