Unilever Pact Covers U.S., Europe; Media Technology Team Formed

CINCINNATI (AdAge.com) -- Unilever has struck a multimillion-dollar cross-platform deal with AOL Time Warner that spans the U.S. and Europe and encompasses TV, print, online and possible "targeted content" for consumer relationship marketing programs.

A spokesman for Unilever wouldn't further quantify the size of the deal but said: "When you're talking about the world's largest advertiser and a media company the size of AOL Time Warner, you can imagine this is a significant opportunity."

AOL Time Warner properties such as America Online, various Time Inc. print titles, the TBS and TNT cable networks and WB Network as well as the company's custom publishing unit.

The two companies also have agreed to share information on emerging media technologies through a joint, multi-disciplinary team to develop new media platforms and standards internationally.

That part of the deal will include use of Unilever's Digital Futures Laboratory in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., which is developing mobile and in-home technology for consumers.
