AOL also announced its members spent more than $1 billion in 1998 holiday shopping sales. AOL members spent $1.2 billion shopping online via AOL in the period between Nov. 26 and Dec. 27, according to a study produced for America Online by the Internet Research Group, Radnor, Pa. The study found that Dec. 17 was the heaviest shopping day of the season, generating more than $36 million in sales of consumer goods and travel-related services.
In 1997 purchases by AOL members resulted in the first-ever $1 million shopping day.
