Published on .

America Online has formed an alliance with the Tribune Company to establish Digital City, a separate new media company that will provide local, interactive content, news and information in initially 88 cities. As part of the alliance, Tribune Company has acquired a minority stake in Digital City and will contribute content as well as operate new Digital City affiliates where Tribune has a local newspaper presence. Tribune will also provide additional information through its 10 TV stations. Launched originally in 1995, America Online's local Digital City affiliates are already operating in Washington, Boston and San Francisco.
