Ian Diery, exec VP-general manager of the mainstay personal computer division, quit last week following a reorganization in which Apple consolidated all marketing into a Worldwide Marketing & Customer Solutions unit. Mr. Diery had been a key Apple marketing executive the past six years.
Daniel Eilers is senior VP of the new unit. Mr. Eilers, 40, most recently was president-CEO of Claris Corp., Apple's software arm, and earlier worked in strategic planning for Apple.
BBDO Worldwide, Los Angeles, agency for Apple's estimated $150 million-plus global account, has no relationship with Mr. Eilers and is working to develop one with Allen Olivo, who became worldwide corporate advertising director earlier this year. Foote, Cone & Belding and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, both San Francisco, are known to be knocking on Mr. Olivo's door, though he doesn't seem interested.
Close observers believe the business is safe at BBDO for now. The agency and marketer are said to be near a compensation agreement.
