Apple Computer's rehiring of TBWA Chiat/Day as agency for its $80 million to $90 million U.S. account is expected to be announced Aug. 5, according to people close to Apple.

The company late Aug. 4 was working on an announcement, which will reunite Apple with the red-hot agency.

Apple terminated what was then Chiat/Day in 1986 when it moved its ad account to BBDO Worldwide. The computer marketer this June began an agency review, prompting the resignation of BBDO.

TBWA Chiat/Day this summer initially declined to pitch Apple. But the agency entered the review after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs took back his unofficial leadership position and solicited help from Lee Clow, chairman-chief creative officer of TBWA Chiat/Day North America.
