Asian inspiration

American remakes of Japanese films have been huge hits. Miramax's remake of "Shall We Dance," for example, pulled in more than $100 million in worldwide box office and another $93 million in DVDs and rentals.

It's no surprise, then, to see Sony planning "The Grudge 2" and Warner Bros. "The Departed," a Martin Scorsese version of the Hong Kong mega-hit "Infernal Affairs." Also coming: Universal's version of the gritty Korean thriller "Old Boy," DreamWorks' re-imagining of Korean ghost story "Tale of Two Sisters" and romantic comedy "My Sassy Girl," and a version of Japanese serial killer flick "The Cure."
