Association asks online textbook sites to change ad claims

The National Association of College Stores, a trade association representing the collegiate retailing industry, asked online textbook retailers BigWords.com and eCampus.com to change or substantiate their advertising claims, including BigWords' claim it offers its top 40 textbooks at a 40% discount and eCampus' claim it offers its top 50 textbooks at a 50% discount. The association submitted letters to the companies promising the association will take whatever action is needed to prevent what it considers are further misleading statements unless the companies substantiate or withdraw the disputed claims by Feb. 13.
