(March 29, 2001) -- Ogilvy & Mather, Atlanta, a unit of WPP Group, is merging into the Atlanta office of sibling WPP agency J. Walter Thompson.

Ian Latham, managing director of the Ogilvy outpost, said the shift will take place over the next several weeks. Clients such as the National Peanut Board, Children's Healthcare Atlanta and Mrs. Smith's are in the process of being notified. Mr. Latham said employees who handled clients' business at Ogilvy will remain with the brands as they shift to the JWT office.

Mr. Latham declined to say how many employees will be effected by the merger. According to the Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies, Ogilvy's Atlanta agency employed 61 staffers in January.

Mr. Latham said he will be exploring other opportunities within WPP. -- Laura Hughes
