Atomic to test market snowboards in U.S.

Published on .

HELSINKI--Atomic, the ski sports subsidiary of the Finnish sporting goods and tobacco company Amer Group, is planning to launch a new line of Atomic branded snowboards in Europe.

The company, which launched Atomic alpine ski boots in early 1998, is also test marketing the new snowboards in the U.S., the world's second-largest snowboard market at 400,000 units.

Oxygen, Atomic's existing snowboard brand, is expected to consolidate its market position with the use of a new material, carbon fiber Hyper Carbon, which has been successfully used in sister brands Wilson golf clubs and tennis racquets as well as in Atomic brand skis.

Atomic expects to sell more than 700,000 pairs of alpine skis this year. Sales of alpine bindings continue to be strong and will exceed 300,000 pairs this year.
