Avantel enters Internet market in Mexico

Published on .

MEXICO CITY--Mexican long distance telephone servicemarketer Avantel is joining the growing Internet Service Provider market with the launch of its service.

A national newspaper campaign through Betancourt Barba Euro RSCG, Mexico City, is promoting Internet service within two months for the first 5,000 subscribers for the equivalent of 0.09 cents.

The ads feature one computer mouse racing another across the page under the slogan "Break the speed limits," referring to Avantel's 56K modem access.

A joint venture between MCI WorldCom and Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival, Avantel entered the long distance market in 1997.
