Volvo car: "Twister" (Abbott Mead Vickers/ BBDO; Tony Kaye Films; :90). Category winner is a gripping drama of a tornado, starring the car-A Volvo, of course-that researchers use to study these twisters. Scenes of houses being blown apart and mobile homes flying through the air are all achieved by special effects (see Craft category, Page S-8).

American Honda Motor Co.: "Eraser" (Rubin Postaer & Associates; Complete Pandemonium; :30). On a gridlocked New York street, horns honk, jackhammers pound and tempers flare. "Come on, move the car!" a cabbie howls to the driver ahead of him. Then an eraser appears and begins eradicating the scene-as well as the cabbie's shrill voice. Finally, everything has been eliminated except a Honda, in profile against a white background. The unseen eraser-wielder blows the crumbs away and the Honda drives off, revealing a single word on the screen: "Simplify." Endframe is the Honda logo.

American Isuzu Motors: "Toy Store" ( Goodby, Silverstein & Partners; :30). A father takes a child's training potty from a shelf and pushes his toddler son in a shopping cart down the aisles of a huge toy store. Dad stops, as if in a trance, and we see the object of his affection: A full-size Isuzu 4WD Rodeo, packaged in a box like a toy. He's still gaping as the spot closes. Endframe: "The new Rodeo. Grow up. Not old."
