Nike: "all n.y.c." (Wieden & Kennedy; Radical Media; :90) Best in the Animation category, this film trailer, shown exclusively in New York theaters, features a game between New York and Los Angeles all-star teams made up of past and present National Basketball Association stars. The graffiti-influenced characters, mostly done in b&w with sepia tones against a flat background, were created by Javier Michalski; narrator was a New York street game announcer.

Anheuser-Busch: "Clydesdales" ( DDB Needham Worldwide; Propaganda Films; :60). Named Best in Visual Effects (see also Alcoholic Beverages category), this spot combines live action (the "football-playing" Clydesdales being filmed near the Sawtooth Mountains in Stanley, Idaho), animatronics (the Clydesdale "legs" used in the scenes where the horses snapped, held and kicked the football) and computer graphic effects in post-production. Stan Winston Studios created the animatronics and Digital Domain was responsible for the computer graphic effects in post production. The spot was produced by Propaganda Films.

Volvo Car U.K.: "Twister" (Abbott Mead Vickers/ BBDO; Tony Kaye Films; :90). This year's Cinematography winner (see also Automotive category) grippingly captured the terror and intensity of a tornado through the use of special effects.

Haggar Clothing Co.: "Spy" ( Goodby, Silverstein & Partners; Smillie Films; :60). Editing winner (see also Apparel category), this taut, well-paced mini-thriller centers on a spy trying to escape detection in an office building. He thinks he's caught in an elevator and takes a suicide pill, only to learn that his would-be adversary is a security guard who only wants to tell him that he likes his clothes.

Pepsi-Cola Co.-Pepsi-Cola: "Diner" (BBDO Worldwide; Pytka Productions; :60). Adapted Music winner (see also Soft Drink category) has Pepsi and Coke truck drivers meeting one winter night in a diner and exchanging brands for a taste-except that the Coke man won't give back the can of Pepsi, resulting in a fight. Music is "Smile on Your Brother" by the Youngbloods, an apt background for what at first seems like a budding friendship between competitors.
