Reebok: "Field of Dreams" ( Lowe
Group, London; Tony Kaye & Partners; :60). This U.K. spot for Reebok follows the company's tradition of minimal product promotion. Twenty celebrities from various professions are shown passing a soccer ball (which sometimes turns into a head of cabbage or a bag of fish and chips) from playing field to London street to bathtub, etc. Participants include Sting, Richard Attenborough, Jose Carreras, Quentin Crisp and Tom Jones. End frame zooms in on a Reebok shoe and the logo, "Reebok. This is my planet."
Nike: "Good vs. Evil" (Wieden & Kennedy, Amsterdam; @radical.media; :60). This one-minute morality play pits European soccer team against the devil and his minions who, according to the voice-over, are out to destroy the game. After taking their lumps, the good guys regroup, and the goal is scored when a soccer ball turned fireball roars right through the devil goalie. Some TV operators in Europe turned down the spot as too violent. At the end, Nike again advises, "Just do it."
