THE BEST AWARDS: INTERACTIVE: COCKROACHES MADE FUN FOR WARNER ANIMATION PACK WINS FOR 3D STUDIO MAX

In the second year of the interactive category, the AA Best Web site for 1996 goes to Warner Bros. Online for a site promoting the movie "Joe's Apartment." The site was created in-house. "Joe's Apartment" was spun into a movie from the MTV show about the cockroaches that live there. The Web site, designed to appeal to that MTV generation, is marked by a great attention to detail and a quirky sense of humor.

The interface is a cockroach-friendly apartment where visitors can click on the different items and pieces of furniture to get around. In the refrigerator, for example, they can learn more about cockroaches. Perhaps the most amusing is the computer featuring a parody of America Online and several popular online magazines, including Playroach and Hotroach.

Interspersed throughout the room are plugs for the movie and downloadable clips from the movie.

The site subtly creates a positive impression aimed squarely at the target demographic-all with an easy feel and a lot of fun.

The winner in the CD-ROM category is the 3D Studio Max and "Character Studio" promotion CD. The disc features a slick demonstration of this 3D modeling, rendering and animation package by the Kinetix division of Autodesk.

Besides the stylish examples of what can be done with this software, the CD-ROM also takes the viewer through a demonstration of how the animations are created.
