$100 Million Prize for New York Agency

AOL Time Warner's New Line Cinema awarded Aegis Group's Carat USA, New York, its $100 million media account, according to media execs. Carat USA beat out incumbent Independent Media Services, New York, which had done media planning and buying since the studio started more than a decade ago. New Line Cinema executives wouldn't comment, but others say Carat's extensive staffing and research capabilities were the main reasons. It's the second big win for Carat USA in two weeks, following its landing of Pfizer's $700 million consolidated account.

EURO RSCG BUYS MAJORITY STAKE IN BLACK ROCKET
Agency Best Known for Yahoo! Campaign

Havas Advertising's Euro RSCG Worldwide bought a majority stake in $100 million San Francisco agency Black Rocket, as expected, and will rename it Black Rocket Euro RSCG. Black Rocket had been talking in recent weeks with two suitors (Ad Age, Feb. 5); Havas over the past week had appeared the favorite.

Black Rocket is best known for its work on Yahoo!, starting with the 1996 "Do you Yahoo!?" campaign. Other clients include MTV International and Conde Nast.

Karen Edwards, Yahoo's VP-brand marketing, in a statement called the deal "an excellent opportunity to spread the Black Rocket DNA around the world and to continue the globalization of the Yahoo! brand."

Separately, Yahoo! lost its managing directors for both Europe and Asia in the last week. Savio Chow, VP-managing director of Yahoo!Asia in Hong Kong, said he is leaving for personal reasons. Fabiola Arredondo, managing director of Yahoo!Europe, is also leaving.
