Baby Bells battle

U S West Multimedia Communications, Denver, has fired one of the first rounds in the Baby Bell battles over local service, squaring off against BellSouth in Atlanta for consumer telephone, entertainment and information services.

U S West on Monday announced a new brand, MediaOne, formed in large part from the $12 million purchase last year of the Wometco andGCTV cable systems last year. It which will invest $300 million over two to three years to install 12,000 miles of fiber optic and coaxial cable. The spot and cable TV, outdoor and newspaper campaign, themed "You'll see," estimated at $3 million to $5 million, is from agency Rubin Postaer and Associates, Santa Monica.
