Bahrenburg wins Petersen?

Published on .

Former Hearst Magazines President Claeys Bahrenburg is the apparent winner in the auction for Petersen Publishing Co., industry executives said. Mr. Bahrenburg's offer, backed by Chicago-based investment banking firm Willis Stein & Partners, was said to have beaten beat out a number of rivals including the perceived front runner, K-III Communications Corp.; plus American Media, believed to have backing from Boston Ventures; Weider Publications; and an investment group headed by magazine enterprenuer Peter Diamandis. Neither Mr. Bahrenburgh nor officials at Willis Stein & Parnters could be reached for comment.
