Barnes & Noble links with AOL

Published on .

Barnes & Noble, New York, signed a deal with America Online to become the exclusive bookseller in AOL's Marketplace, with direct-from-warehouse shipping available immediately for 400,000 titles. Under terms of the deal, AOL customers will get the store's 30% discount for hardback books and 20% for paperbacks, as well as ordering capability for books not stocked in their local Barnes & Noble store. The AOL area launches mid-February, and a Web site will launch soon thereafter. Borders Group is also said to be soon readying a book-retailling Web site of its own.
